Eco Club

Two of the most popular activities after school this year are Eco Club and Project Best. Seventh and eighth grade students in Eco Club loved the opportunity to learn about the natural world and their place in it; seventh and eighth grade teachers loved how kids had an opportunity to gain awareness of the natural world.

While many students first turned to Eco Club as a way to fulfill service hours in their seventh grade science classes , or joined to continue their work in school gardens from elementary school, they stayed for the interactive projects (like fixing up the courtyard) and the opportunity to meet new people. Volunteers like Ms. Poppe and Ms. Amey enjoy helping lead sponsor, Ms. Alam, because they enjoy helping the environment.

Members of the Photography Club visited their Eco Club peers to take pictures of all the beauty and hard work in the courtyard.
Guitar Club

Guitar Club is a fun club where anyone can learn guitar while hanging out with friends. Seventh grader Neha Jagadeeswaran shares why she enjoys staying after school:
What made you want to join the club? I joined Guitar Club because I thought it was going to be a fun after school activity, to share my love of guitar with other people.
How long have you been playing guitar? I have been playing guitar for about 1 ½ years now.
What kind of guitar do you play? I play an acoustic Fender guitar.
What’s the best thing about Guitar Club? My favorite thing about Guitar Club is that I can have fun and talk while playing songs, and my friend Makayla is there to have fun with me. Also, Mr. Hornfeck is super nice if we can’t a certain thing done right, and he will it with you and help you improve.
What’s the most challenging part of playing guitar? I thing the most challenging song is Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, because you have to switch fingers very quickly, and you can't rest a finger on a cord because you will make a very loud and obnoxious buzzing noise.
What is your favorite song to play on the guitar? My favorite songs to play are both Shawn Mendes songs: Honest, and Treat You Better.
What would you tell someone who was interested in joining guitar club, but didn’t have any experience? I would definitely tell them to join, because there are many people in Guitar Club who are beginners, and Mr. Hornfeck is very helpful and will teach how to pluck and strum the strings, as well as play notes. If you don't have a tune at home, then you can just ask him at the beginning of the day, and he will take care of that. Unfortunately you have to buy your own guitar, and picks, but once you get that covered then you are set to have fun! :)
Students can still join Guitar Club, but as Neha pointed out, they must own or have access to a guitar. For more information, see Mr. Hornfeck in room 108.
