The War That Saved my Life

Ada is a nine year old girl living in London. She would be like any other girl, except for one thing. She has never left her apartment. Her mother is to ashamed of her twisted foot, and doesn’t let her talk to anyone. When her brother, Jamie, is shipped out of London to the countryside to escape the danger of the way, Ada escapes and joins him. There, Ada and Jamie’s guardian become Susan Smith, an older woman still recovering from a tragedy. Ada knows that if she lets herself get too used to her new life, she will be crushed when it is taken away from her and she must return to her cruel mother. She can’t help it though, and starts to trust Susan. Even more, Susan begins to love Ada and Jamie. Ada goes on may adventures, as well as learning to write, teaching herself to ride a pony, and watching for German spies.
