Summer 2018: Student Recommendations-- Movies and TV
This spring, seventh graders practiced writing CTERC paragraphs for the Persuasion Unit. Below, you can find recommendations for movies and television.
Kate Mason: Netflix
Netflix is one of my most used apps and I speak on behalf of lots of Americans. Netflix is a popular app that is used nationwide and well liked by many. It came out 20 years ago but skyrocketed as a successful company about 11 years back. Why do you think Netflix is so popular? Because they have good shows and movies! Netflix has the widest variety of entertainment I have ever seen. Good quality showing and clear pictures for everything! I rarely ever have problems with quality so it makes it enjoyable to watch.I highly suggest for device users to get Netflix because it is definitely a must have app.
Kevin Johnson: The Iron Giant
Today I am going to tell you about The Iron Giant, the best movie ever! If you like the movie The Boxtrolls then you might like the movie the Iron Giant because they are similar, but also different. The best thing about The Iron Giant is the effect of the different time period. The movie takes place in the 1950’s so that makes the movie different then if it happened now and grants the viewer a different perspective.The main reason I support watching the movie is because it has a moral. Even if you are different and strange, you can still fit in and be a hero, and that the real bad guy might not be who you think it is. You owe it to yourself to watch this movie because it will grant you a different view on life. It has a message of not judging people because they are different , and you should teach that to your kids.
Andy Parr: The Martian If you’re looking for a great movie to watch with your teens and tweens, The Martian is definitely for you. If you liked the movie Gravity, then this fellow Best Picture nominee is for you because they both follow very realistic space themed storylines. The most crucial detail that you know about The Martian is that you will enjoy it just as much as the rest of your family, my family watched this movie for the first time three years ago and we all laughed, had our hearts drop, and sat in suspense with each other. The main reason I recommend The Martian for you is because unlike most sci-fi films, the storyline is believable since everything that astronaut Mark Watney does is backed up with scientific proof. So don’t be the one family that’s a downer to everyone else in town, rent or buy The Martian for your next family movie night.
Anh Bui: Surf's Up! If you’re looking for a good children’s movie, you need to check out Surf’s Up on Netflix! Before watching the movie, you need to remember that this is an old movie so the characters will not look like characters today on Cartoon Network. After you know that you don’t mind that, then the best thing you’ll find about this movie is that every character in that movie is hilarious, when I was bored as a child, this movie would always be able to entertain me with its jokes! The main reason that I recommend this movie is because if you have a child, younger sibling, or just a child at heart, this movie will surely let you and them have a good laugh, and the message of the movie is inspiring too! Be sure to buy this goofy, funny, and entertaining movie or watch it on Netflix as soon as you can, you will not regret it!
George Huynh: Gravity Falls If your looking for a great TV show about adventure, and mystery, you need to check out Gravity Falls on TV. If you like adventure, bad-guy fighting and mystery, then you’ll like Gravity Falls because Gravity Falls is full of monsters, and secrets, all presented in a funny and cartoonish way. The best part about this show is near the end. It has less mystery, but FULL of action, and, it has awesome parts with all the characters in the TV show fighting against the one enemy. The main reason i recommend this TV show, is because of how interesting I find it, it really did pull me in while I watched it. You owe it to yourself to check out Gravity Falls because it will make your life better, you’ll want to go outside more, and have adventures just like in Gravity Falls.
